Ensuring access for adolescents and youth to comprehensive and age-appropriate information, education and adolescent-friendly comprehensive, quality and timely services to be able to make informed choices about their reproductive lives, to adequately protect themselves from unintended pregnancies, gender-based violence, sexually transmitted infections and HIV/AIDS, and to be able to transition safely and happily into adulthood.
Australia remains fully committed to delivering on the ICPD and its Programme of Action both nationally and through our support for global action. We will continue to provide strong support to UNFPA and other key organisations delivering sexual and reproductive health services and rights. We remain focused on supporting improved sexual and reproductive health and rights outcomes in Pacific island states, and in humanitarian settings.
Australia will continue to support partner governments of six Pacific countries to reduce unmet need for family planning. Our Transformative Agenda for Women, Adolescents and Youth initiative in partnership with UNFPA, will progressively reduce the unmet need for family planning information and services, and build more conducive and supportive environments for people to access and benefit from these services.
Comprehensive sexuality education is key to ensuring people have the information they need to make informed decisions about their health and the direction of their lives. By 2022, Australia will support six Pacific countries to update all comprehensive sexuality education/family life education curricula to align with international standards.
Australia is assisting Indo-Pacific countries to accelerate progress towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by strengthening health systems and building the financial and programmatic sustainability of health programs. We will increase our support to the ‘Advance UHC’ initiative, a partnership with the World Bank, to support sustainable domestic financing for health services that also support sexual reproductive health and rights.
Strengthen efforts to reduce Maternal Mortality Rate from 169 to 70 per 100,000 live births by 2030 through adequate coverage and quality of maternal health care, including quality institutional delivery, midwifery services, 4 Ante-Natal Care/Post-Natal Care visits, adequate response to Post-Partum Haemorrhage and Eclampsia, reducing child marriage and ensuring Post-partum Family Planning.
